The Toronto Blue Jays have become more… something. Something that’s hard to quantify… not better defensively… not more powerful… Something almost… intangible… grittier… more lunch pail… more blue collar… more scrappy perhaps.

“There’s a lot of stability that comes with him,” said general manager J.P. Ricciardi “We’ve felt for a while now that we lacked certain… intangibles. And this move certainly addresses that.”

The Saint Louis Cardinals had declined to resign Eckstein because:

  • He only played 117 games last year due to injuries
  • He committed 20 errors in those games
  • He hit 3 home runs in 117 games
  • He had 31 RBI in 117 games
  • He can’t throw a baseball 40 feet without falling over
  • He can’t hit a baseball out of the infield

What does Eckstein bring? Intangibles and lots of them!
