The cream rises to the top and one thing is clear: Ortiz injected power into the Red Sox lineup and his clutch performance enhanced their chances to win every night.

Joining the Sox in 2003 Ortiz took a lot of needling as the new kid on the team, but teammates were impressed with how easily he laughed it all off.  By 2004 Ortiz was providing the Red Sox offense with the shot in the arm it needed to break through to the next level.

The David Ortiz of 2004 injected a lot of firepower into the middle of the Red Sox lineup. Maybe they could have still won without him, but one thing is certain: Ortiz’s performance enhanced their chances. When the Red Sox blew a commanding lead to the Angels on a Guerrero grand slam in the ALDS, it was Ortiz who would later cream a ball clear over the green monster to give them the series sweep.

It is a tough pill to swallow that the Ortiz of 2004 may be gone forever now.
