Gretzky says something non-commital - hockey press turns it into a controversy… you know the drill.

Note to NHL: Two guys actually at a hockey game
Taking the surprising stance for a Canadian of advocating more interference from a large centralized government, Wayne Gretzky thinks that the NHL should step in to put a stop to the “Vote for Rory” campaign.
The viral internet phenomenon, started by Buffalo native Steve Schmid, has ham-and-egg defenceman Rory Fitzpatrick on the verge of being named a starter in the 2006-2007 NHL All-Star game.
…and that has the Great One “irked”:

..actually pretty much everything quoted in the article is just the usual Wayne Gretzky diplomatic speak, but the person who wrote the article says Gretzky’s “irked”, so I assume he must’ve picked up something in the tone of voice or body language.
Anyway, Schmid, a fan of Fitzpatrick’s from his days with the Buffalo Sabres, has stated that the idea first occurred to him when he heard that Fitzpatrick had won the Vancouver Canucks most accurate shot competition.
“That started the ball rolling, and from there I realized that Rory would be great for the All-Star game considering he represents all the underdogs in the league, and in any sport for that matter.”, Schmid has said.

…and while you admire the altruistic efforts on behalf of blue-collar athletes everywhere, be sure to stop by the Cafe Press shop and pick up any of the 24 styles of “Vote for Rory” shirts, or perhaps a coffee mug, or a mousepad. Maybe a Button? Refrigerator magnet? Postcard?
Greeting card?
Sticker?
Hat?
